Nightbitch at Chelsea Theater

Nightbitch

98 mins | Rated R (for language and some sexuality.)

Directed by Marielle Heller

Starring Scoot McNairy, Ella Thomas, Zoe Chao, Mary Holland, Amy Adams

A woman (Amy Adams) pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn. Director, writer, producer Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) brings her satirical and singular vision to NIGHTBITCH, based on the acclaimed debut novel by Rachel Yoder. Six-time Academy Award® nominee Amy Adams (Arrival, American Hustle) stars alongside Scoot McNairy (A Complete Unknown, C’Mon, C’Mon), and Arleigh Snowden and Emmett Snowden in their motion picture debut. The cast also includes Zoë Chao (Your Place or Mine, Senior Year), Mary Holland (Maggie Moore(S), Senior Year), Archana Rajan (Little Death, The Goldbergs), and Jessica Harper (Bones and All, Suspira).

Rachel Yoder’s 2021 novel received glowing reviews worldwide with critics calling it ‘a stunning modern feminist fable’.

The idea for the story had come to Yoder when she unexpectedly dropped out of the workforce as a new mother. “I was by myself, a stay home mom, something I never thought I’d be,” she had said. “I found myself in this sort of malaise, not knowing who I was, and having really lost myself. Nightbitch was born out of that silence.”

When the team at Annapurna Pictures discovered the book, they became passionate about it, not only because it tells the truth about motherhood – but also how it feels. Explains producer Sue Naegle, “Even if you’re not a mother, it’s about that feeling of constantly being pulled in multiple directions and giving something up to move forward.
